You may notice alcohol listed in the ingredients of many high-quality herbal tinctures. Understanding why it's there—and how to manage it for sensitive pets—can help you feel more confident in your pet’s supplement routine.
Why Alcohol is Used
Alcohol is a traditional and highly effective way to extract the medicinal compounds from herbs. It captures the beneficial constituents that other methods might miss. To make our formulas more palatable for cats and dogs, we reduce the alcohol potency and blend it with plant-based glycerin.
The "Hot Water" Hack
If your pet is particularly sensitive to the smell or taste of alcohol, or you simply prefer otherwise, you can easily dissipate it before serving:
- Add your pet's specific dose to a small amount of hot water.
-
Let it sit briefly; the heat helps the alcohol evaporate.
-
Cool the mixture completely. Always perform a temperature check on your wrist before giving it to your pet.
- Once cooled, mix the liquid into their food or a favorite treat.
Note: Always consult your veterinarian before starting a new supplement, especially if your pet is pregnant, nursing, or taking other medications.
